35th Annual Sports Symposium Course Overview

The 35th Annual Sports Symposium was a great success. There were 432 registrants for the meeting. I reviewed 286 of your participant evaluation forms. You have suggested a number of excellent new topics which I will incorporate into next year's program. The evaluations were overwhelmingly positive concerning course content, speakers, and workshops. However, there were two frequent complaints with the program. First, the late start corresponding late finish for the Friday program, and second, parking location. I will try to address each of these.

The late start corresponding late finish is due to the fact that the auditorium is not available until 11:00 a.m. on Friday's because it is used for medical student testing. Therefore, the symposium cannot start until 11:00 a.m. In order to provide 16 hours of ATC credit the program had to be extended until 8:00 p.m. Friday. The symposium pays no fee for the use of the auditorium, a fact that enables us to keep the cost of the symposium low. If the Symposium moved to another venue (Hotel, etc.) the rental fee would significantly increase the Symposium cost. At $8.75 per ATC Credit unit the Symposium is a great Value.

The parking problem is also related to the UTHSCSA schedule. On Saturday the UTHSCSA is closed and ample parking is available. On Friday, Symposium attendees compete with UTHSCSA Employees and hence have to park further from the auditorium. Again while moving the Symposium to another venue would possibly help parking it would adversely affect cost.

We will continue to strive for high quality, low cost program; a characteristic of all 35 years of the symposium. Thank you for your support.
